Saint Lucy was born in 283 A.D. in Syracuse, Sicily as a Catholic. She was born to a wealthy father who died while she was young, leaving her with her mother. In her teenage years, she secretly pledged herself and her life to Jesus Christ and to remain a virgin. Her mother was going to have Lucy marry a Pagan, until Lucy showed her mother that Christ was a better life partner than anyone. She took her ailed mother to the tomb of Saint Agatha, and through the power of prayer, was miraculously cured of her illness. Her mother was grateful, and realized that Lucy did not need to marry. However, her ex-fiancé did not see the miracle in the same light as her mother. He beytrayed Lucy, and told the Govenor that she was a Christian. She was sent to a brothel, but by the power of God, she could not be lifted to see the prositution. Although there is no known way of how Lucy died, many are sure she suffered a similar fate to Christians in the early 4th Century who were tortured until death.
